PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - A Peoria man has been indicted on a first-degree murder charge for a fatal shooting two years ago in South Peoria.

A grand jury found there’s enough evidence for Rico C. Booker, 34, to be tried for the shooting death of Roy L. Payne, 29, of Peoria, who worked at Rivian Automotive, according to his obituary .

On May 22, 2023, Peoria Police said they were called to the 1500 block of South Westmoreland where a ShotSpotter alert indicated four shots were fired there. In the 1800 block of South Westmoreland is where police said they found a car that had crashed into a utility pole, with a man inside who had been shot.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said at the time that Payne died instantly from a gunshot wound to the chest.
