New Mexico could stand to lose more than most states in a national legal battle that could revoke millions of dollars from colleges and universities with high numbers of Hispanic students.

About 20 New Mexico colleges and universities — the state's most-attended higher education campuses — are among the more than 600 nationwide with a student body composed of 25% or more Hispanic students, granting them the designation of "Hispanic-Serving Institutions" and the ability to apply for grants to provide supports for disadvantaged student groups.
