SONORA, Ky. — The Sonora Fire Department in Hardin County, Kentucky is one of just 150 fire departments across the country to receive a $10,000 grant through the Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program , a national initiative led by State Farm and the National Volunteer Fire Council.
Fire Chief Robert Wethington says the funding will be used to upgrade outdated halogen emergency lights on two of their fire trucks that have been in service since the early 1990s.
"If we take a blocking position on the interstate, those emergency lights will notify drivers before they approach the incident,” Wethington said. “They’ll know they should slow down and yield."
