High Point University has broken ground on its John and Lorraine Charman Library, a $100 million project that will serve as the university's main library when it opens in 2027.
The new library will house thousands of books, digital databases, private study rooms and a gallery displaying the university's collection of artwork, according to a news release.
The library also will include studios where students can record podcast.
The 150,000 square foot four-story building is being built next to the R.G. Wanek Center on Panther Drive, overlooking the Slane Student Center.
The library is named in honor of John and Lorraine Charman, who donated $30 million to help pay for the project.
“This library takes us to a whole new level of learning, growing and maturing. It will be a state-of-the-ar
