DECORAH — Jurors got a glimpse into Jade Colvin’s tumultuous life Tuesday as testimony began for the man accused of killing the runaway teen.

Jade disappeared while living at James David Bachmurski’s farmstead in rural Decorah, where her mother, LaDawn "Josie" Colvin, also briefly lived.

Assistant Iowa Attorney General Andrew Prosser said Jade never was seen again after March 30, 2017, and her remains have never been located.

"We wish we had a body, but all of the evidence is going to establish that there is only one person who could have caused the permanent disappearance of Jade Colvin, and that's the defendant," Prosser said.

Bachmurski, 66, is charged with second-degree murder.

His defense attorneys said there is no proof Colvin is even dead.
