THE New England Patriots have released a former first-round pick ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

The star was cut by the Patriots on Tuesday despite being listed as a starter on the team's unofficial depth chart ahead of their final preseason game.

Cole Strange was waived by New England after three seasons with the side and is set to become a free agent.

Strange, 27, was superseded by rookie third-round pick Jared Wilson in the final preseason match.

The Patriots conceded 28 unanswered points in the second half as they were blown away by the New York Giants on Friday.

Head coach Mike Vrabel cut the lineman from the 53-man squad ahead of the upcoming NFL season.

This leaves New England with significant depth concerns along their offensive line.
