ALBAN − A 42-year-old Rosholt man is dead after he drowned while kayaking on a Portage County lake.

At 3:15 p.m. Aug. 26, a caller reported a man in distress in the water on Lake Helen in the town of Alban, about 20 miles northeast of Stevens Point, according to a Portage County Sheriff's Office news release.

Christopher A. Philipp was kayaking and went under the surface of the water. Several people tried to help Philipp, but were unable to find him, according to the news release.

Emergency responders arrived and found Philipp. Lifesaving measures were attempted but they were unsuccessful. The Portage County Medical Examiner pronounced Phillip dead, according to the news release.
