SAUNDERS COUNTY, Neb. —

The Oklahoma man convicted in a Nebraska cold case will serve time behind bars.

A judge sentenced Joseph Ambroz to two years in prison for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Mary Kay Heese.

Ambroz received the maximum sentence for his conviction. He received credit for almost one year served.

She was found dead in a ditch near Wahoo in March 1969. Investigators say she was stabbed multiple times.

Ambroz was extradited to Wahoo from Ponca City, Oklahoma in 2024.

A plea agreement was reached in the case in July . Ambroz was originally charged with first-degree murder .
