KANSAS CITY, Mo. —

For Neil Smith, that feeling never goes away.

"Oh yeah," said the 13-year NFL veteran. "There are a lot of vibes here."

KETV met with Smith, a former Husker who spent most of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, outside of Arrowhead Stadium.

It's the same spot where Nebraska Football will start its 2025 season against the Cincinnati Bearcats on Aug. 28.

"It was God's gift that I even got to Nebraska," Smith said.

Smith was a multisport athlete in high school. From football to basketball to high jump, he said he wasn't considering college until Nebraska called.

"I was going into the Marines," he said. "I would've been third-generation."

But a phone call in the early 1980s from Coach Tom Osborne changed that. He offered Smith the last scholarship for the 1984 se
