MINNEAPOLIS (Gray News/AP) — Two children were killed in a shooting Wednesday during the first week of classes at a Minneapolis Catholic school, police authorities said during a news conference.
They were 8 and 10 years old.
According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, 17 other people were injured - 14 of them being children. Of those injured, at least two are in critical condition.
Officials said the gunman approached the outside of Annunciation Catholic School during a mass worship service and began firing a rifle through the church window at the children sitting in the pews, hitting children and worshipers.
“Don’t just say this is about ‘thoughts and prayers’ right now. These kids were literally praying,” Mayor Jacob Frey said during a news conference.
