MACON, Ga. — Mercer University issued a shelter in place order Wednesday afternoon after a threat towards its Macon campus, but the shelter in place was lifted after a sweep of the campus, according to an emergency alert sent out by the university.

An alert was sent out by the university at 12:15 p.m. saying "an active threat" was reported at their Macon campus. They issued a shelter in place order, but that was lifted just over an hour later just before 1:25 p.m.

According to Mercer University spokesperson Jennifer Fairfield-Williams, a threat to the campus was phoned in, prompting law enforcement to begin a sweep of the campus.
