AUBURN, MI – Bay City Western isn’t buying into the theory that the season is a marathon and not a sprint.

Everything is a sprint these days for the Warriors.

And everything they do is done in a dash.

“We’re a very fast and athletic team,” Western quarterback Dawson Lavender said. “We’re full of firecrackers, guys who are ready to go with a lot of speed and energy.”

The speed part is done by design as the Warriors break from the notion that speed can’t be taught. Following last season’s 3-6 campaign, head coach Chris Willertz and his staff dove full bore into a speed training program that has become a hit with the players.

And they can’t wait to see how it translates to the field.
