ANN ARBOR TWP., MI — Road officials have announced repairs to a bridge over the Huron River, which closed to traffic in June, could begin in a few weeks.
But when the historic Foster Bridge in Ann Arbor Township reopens with a lowered weight limit, heavier vehicles will need to find a different route.
The Washtenaw County Road Commission and its consultants have completed design work to fix the 150-year-old bridge, road officials announced in a release.
The bridge, between Huron River Drive and Country Club Road just outside Ann Arbor, has been closed to traffic since June 9. The emergency closure is causing long detours for motorists, especially residents north of the bridge.
Road commission contractor Anlaan Corp., based in West Michigan, is ordering equipment to repair the bridge.
