ALLENDALE, MI -- Grand Valley State University police are asking students to be vigilant after two cars were stolen from a campus lot.

The two cars were stolen in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Aug. 26 in lot D near the north end of campus.

Police said surveillance cameras showed two people pulling on car door handles. They left the area at high speed when officers arrived.

Police said evidence shows the two people came in a stolen vehicle from a neighboring community.

One of the vehicles taken from the campus lot was recovered the same day.

Because of the auto thefts and recent auto break-ins, police said they are increasing surveillance and patrols of campus lots.

They advise students and others to report suspicious behavior by calling 911, Grand Valley police at 616-331-3255
