According to a source, the Patriots are releasing Kendrick Bourne a day after keeping him on their initial 53-man roster .

The timing is interesting considering the Patriots had Bourne on their roster at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and opted to keep eight receivers . However, according to a source, Bourne asked to be released. The source noted that the Patriots approached the receiver about taking a pay cut, but Bourne declined.

Bourne had a base salary of $5.5 million this year and next.
