A 39-year-old man has been arrested after the Israeli flag in front of Hampstead town hall was torched twice in recent days , Montreal police said Wednesday.
In a news release, police said the arrest took place Tuesday in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough. The arson and explosives squad seized “various evidence,” and the hate crimes unit also participated in the investigation.
The man is expected to appear at the Montreal courthouse on Wednesday. Quebec’s director of criminal and penal prosecutions (DPCP) will determine the charges, according to police.
The incidents happened overnight Sunday and last Thursday, with police investigating both fires as arson.
