Rebekah Baptiste's father and his girlfriend were being investigated for physical abuse allegations, weeks before the 10-year-old girl died, as the Arizona Department of Child Safety lost track of the couple now charged in her death, case listings show.

Richard Daniel Baptiste, 32, and Anicia Woods, 29, were charged on suspicion of first-degree murder , kidnapping and three counts of child abuse in connection with the July 30 death of 10-year-old Rebekah. Authorities have said Rebekah was found unresponsive with multiple injuries July 27 in a wash at the intersection of State Route 77 and U.S. Route 180 in Holbrook, some 230 miles northwest of Phoenix.

Based on DCS investigation dates, Rebekah would have been a little more than 8 months old when child safety services was first prompted
