ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Rochester Police Department just released body camera footage of an officer shooting a suspect during an incident on Weyl Street.
Around 7 p.m. on August 14, officers were investigating a stolen vehicle when they saw a man shooting at and then pistol-whipping another man. After ignoring orders to stop the assault, the suspect was shot in the torso.
According to the RPD, they witnessed 48-year-old Lavar McKnight chasing and shooting at someone across the street. The officer immediately began to pursue into the backyard of a house. As the officer ran up the driveway, he saw McKight on top of the other man, hitting him with a pistol. When commands to stop and show his hands were ignored, the officer shot McNight in the torso.
