Former Mayor Sheng Thao is concerned about whether or not she can get a fair trial in Oakland, according to recent court filings.

Thao faces federal bribery and conspiracy charges along with David and Andy Duong, who run Oakland’s curbside recycling company, California Waste Solutions. Thao’s boyfriend, Andre Jones, was also charged in the alleged scheme to steer city business to the Duongs.

Earlier this month, media outlets reported that Thao’s attorney, Jeffrey Tsai, told a federal judge he’s considering asking for a change of venue for his client. In a brief filed recently with the court, Tsai and another attorney for Thao, Darryl Tarver, explained why.
