THUNDER BAY — Anyone daring to venture into the water at the Mission Island Marsh Conservation Area would be wise to heed a notice from the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.
The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority announced Wednesday that an advisory is now posted there, declaring the beach unsafe for swimming because of high levels of bacteria. The LRCA takes water samples at the Mission Marsh as part of the Thunder Bay District Health Unit's bathing beach program. LRCA's CAO, Tammy Cook, noted the area generally is not used for swimming, but is used by kite surfers. TBDHU has permanent swimming advisories posted at Boulevard Lake and Chippewa Park, letting the public know of the likelihood that the water has elevated levels of E.coli, based on the results of water quality
