MASON, Mich. (WILX) - The Mason School District has been ordered to pay $350,000 to settle a lawsuit alleging the district failed to protect a student from a classmate who sexually assaulted her.
According to the lawsuit, Mason Public Schools readmitted a male student after an investigation found he had engaged in sexual contact and inappropriately touched a female classmate on at least two occasions during the 2022 school year at Mason Middle School.
The girl’s parents argued that his return to school violated district policy, Title IX regulations, and an active personal protection order.
The lawsuit further alleges that the boy’s parents, one an Ingham County official and the other a member of the Sheriff’s Department, used their influence to have their son reinstated.
