Matt Targett has joined the Aston Villa old boys' club at Middlesbrough vowing to help guide the Championship high-fliers back to the Premier League.

The left-back has arrived at the Riverside on a season-long loan from Newcastle United, becoming Boro's seventh signing of the summer and seen as a crucial addition to Rob Edwards' squad.

It is a line-up that also includes Villa academy graduate Finn Azaz , who was on target in a 2-1 victory at Norwich City last Saturday that leaves unbeaten Boro second in the Championship behind early leaders Stoke City.

And that suits Targett just fine , with the 29-year-old expected to be part of the matchday squad when Boro host Sheffield United at the Riverside on Saturday (12.30pm kick-off).
