Jason Kelce congratulated his brother, Travis Kelce, and Taylor Swift on their engagement during the latest episode of their podcast, "New Heights," released on Wednesday. The retired Philadelphia Eagles player shared his excitement in a clip posted on Instagram, stating, "There is one gigantic piece of news that just hit the waves. [Travis] is not here to address this himself, but we felt necessary as a team to get together and send Travis and Taylor a giant congratulations for being engaged."
The podcast episode was recorded on Monday, which was Travis Kelce's only day off from practice with the Kansas City Chiefs. The engagement announcement came the following day, on Tuesday, August 26. In a joint Instagram post, the couple shared the news with the caption, "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨," which quickly garnered millions of likes and congratulatory messages.
According to their father, Ed Kelce, Travis proposed to Swift at their home in Missouri nearly two weeks prior to the announcement. Ed Kelce recounted the moment, saying, "They were about to go out to dinner and he said, 'Let's go out and have a glass of wine.' They got out there, and that's when he asked her, and it was beautiful. They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great."
Ed also revealed that Travis had initially planned to propose later in the month but decided to move it up. "He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event. And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event ... when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you," he said. He added that the couple is "just crazy about each other" and "very much in love."
The engagement news follows Swift's recent appearance on the "New Heights" podcast, where she discussed her 12th studio album, "The Life of a Showgirl," and described Travis as "a vibe booster" and "a human exclamation point." The couple has been dating since 2023, with speculation about their relationship beginning in September when Swift attended a Kansas City Chiefs game with the Kelce brothers' mother, Donna Kelce. Travis was later seen at several of Swift's Eras Tour shows, even joining her on stage at one point.
In the podcast episode, Jason Kelce humorously noted that this week's episode "won’t be as good" as the last one featuring Swift, which set multiple records. He highlighted that their episode with Swift achieved 379 million views on Instagram within the first 72 hours, including a record-breaking Instagram reel. The episode also garnered 61.6 million views on Twitter, 34.5 million on TikTok, and 15 million on YouTube, along with 1.3 million concurrent live viewers, marking the highest for a podcast.
Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are set to open their season against the Los Angeles Chargers on September 5.
