ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. (WWTI) - The burn ban that's been in effect for most of the month in St. Lawrence County has been extended until September 1.

The ban is still in place due to through the Labor Day holiday continued dry conditions in the county. These extremely dry conditions have already caused a number of out-of-control grass and brush fires. The only fires allowed in the county during the ban period are small campfires enclosed within a fire ring.

The burn ban has been extended a few times since first announced on August 12.

County officials still reminded the public that the ban overrides any burn permits, but fire departments are exempted from the order for organized training exercises.
