The Yukon RCMP and coroner's service have confirmed that one person died at the scene of a collision on the North Klondike Highway bridge in Pelly Crossing on the evening of Aug. 25.

According to the RCMP the collision was reported at 10:18 p.m. on Aug. 25. It involved a pickup truck and a semi-truck carrying an oversized load and escorted by pilot cars. An RCMP notice about the incident published on Aug. 27 states that while crossing the bridge, the pickup truck struck the oversized trailer. Both the driver and passenger of the truck were Pelly Crossing residents. The driver died at the scene while the passenger was taken to hospital in Whitehorse with injuries.
