A dolphin that got stranded on a Scots beach has died during a rescue mission. ‌

The common dolphin was found stuck on a shingle beach in Evanton in the Highlands that appeared to be in distress prompting marine mammal rescuers to attend the scene. ‌

The British Divers Marine Life Rescue medics assessed the juvenile male creature before encouraging it to go back in the water which they hoped would remove its stress. ‌

But sadly the animal did not respond well and they were forced to put the dolphin to sleep. A post mortem will be carried out to record the injuries.

Images from the scene show the slippery animal getting helped back into the water by volunteers with a blue sheet shortly before it succumbed to its fate. ‌
