ALBERTVILLE, Ala. - A new voucher program in Marshall County is helping low-income families spay and neuter their pets. The initiative by the Marshall County Animal Advocates aims to address the region's pet overpopulation by making these services more accessible.
Marshall County residents earning less than $37,600 annually or receiving government assistance can apply. They must pay a $10 fee and provide proof of residency and financial need. Once approved, a voucher covering the spay or neuter procedure, rabies vaccine, and microchipping for one pet is mailed to them.
"We have a lot of great rescues around here that people can adopt cats and dogs from," said Kay Johnson, executive director of the Marshall County Animal Advocates. "But the pet overpopulation problem is so immense here
