Two children were killed and 17 people were injured in a shooting during morning Mass before the second day of school at a Catholic school and church in Minneapolis .

Reports of the shooting first came in just before 8:30 a.m. central time. Of the 17 people injured, 14 were children, including some in critical condition.

The children killed in the shooting were 8 and 10 years old.

Gov. Tim Walz confirmed that he had been briefed about the shooting at Annunciation Catholic School and said law enforcement was responding to the scene.

"I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence," Walz wrote.
