LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington’s Street Voice Council and community volunteers are conducting the third annual Street Survey.
This survey is where the homeless can be heard and advocates for the unhoused can get a clear number of people living on the city’s streets.
The survey started at eight on Wednesday morning and will continue until 11 on Wednesday night.
About 80 volunteers will spread throughout the city.
Homeless advocates say that because of House Bill 5, the “Safer Kentucky Act,” a portion of that bill criminalizes street camping, so more people who are unhoused will go into hiding, and it will be tougher to get an accurate homeless count for lexington.
Ginny Ramsey with the Catholic Action Center predicts they’ll see a 20% increase in homelessness this year.
