CANYON COUNTY, Idaho — Ten more mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus in Canyon County, prompting officials to remind residents to take additional precautions – especially with Labor Day celebrations around the corner.

Mosquito samples from seven different locations tested positive for the virus last week, the Canyon County Mosquito Abatement District reported on Wednesday, Aug. 27. Director Jim Lunders said the district continues to see “low levels” of West Nile throughout the county.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) , the virus is one of the leading causes of mosquito-borne disease nationwide. While most people do not develop symptoms, West Nile virus can cause muscle stiffness and fever. Symptoms can appear between two and
