SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - The Emigrant Fire continues to challenge firefighters as it burns in a remote area southwest of Indigo Springs Campground.

According to the Complex Incident Management Team Northwest 13, the fire, fueled by dead trees and new growth, is approximately 7,400 acres in size.

Firefighters are actively reinforcing containment lines and using aviation support to manage the blaze. The primary goals are to protect infrastructure and natural resources, and to prevent the fire from spreading onto privately owned timberlands.

The Willamette National Forest has issued an emergency closure order effective Aug. 27 through Nov. 25, for public and firefighter safety. The closure includes all roads, trails, and recreation sites in the affected area.
