During USD 253 Superintendent Dr. David McGehee’s report during the Board of Education meeting Wednesday, he revealed that the current headcount for enrollment is 3,811, a decrease of 239 since September 2024.
This number does not take into account any weightings that go into account for state funding, but a decreased enrollment total would impact the district’s state funding for the 2026-27 calculations.
Until then, the district is able to use last year’s numbers for this year’s funding calculations.
McGehee reported that the district has looked into cutting expenditures this year to compensate, but realized that significant savings would be unlikely due to them being in contractually obligated areas.
With a solution needing to be found moving forward, McGehee says that he is working
