CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Fall temperatures across the contiguous United States have been steadily rising since 1970, according to a recent study by Climate Central.
The study reveals that every county in the contiguous U.S. has experienced warming fall temperatures over the past five decades.
In Springfield, the average fall temperature has increased by 3 degrees since 1970, with 15 more days of above-normal temperatures during the season.
"That extra heat means longer allergy seasons, mosquitoes that are buzzing and staying active longer, and those iconic fall colors either arriving later or just appearing less vibrant," said Shel Winkley, a meteorologist at Climate Central.
