NORTHPORT, Ala. ( WBRC ) - WBRC has reactions from newly elected Northport city leaders who say the controversial University Beach project is one of the first one they’ll look at when they take office .

In fact, a councilwoman who was re-elected in her district seat says there is a ‘small chance’ the project could be halted.

We have a situation here where councilwoman Jamie Dykes may propose hiring an outside attorney, an expert in contract law to make sure the contract between the city and the developer is ironclad.

Dykes doesn’t like what she sees on the very spot where University Beach is being built on Highway 82.

“I go by there every weekend and I just continue to see a pile of dirt,” said Dykes.
