HOOVER, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A mass shooting at a private Catholic school in Minneapolis left two children dead and 17 others hurt, 14 of whom are also kids.

Tragedies like this prompt many to think of their own children and how to protect them.

It’s not clear whether the Catholic school had a school resource officer. Unfortunately, private schools across the country usually lack SROs.

In Alabama, a new law that went into effect this year allows private and charter schools to contract with local law enforcement and hire SROs.

National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) Executive Director Mo Canady called Wednesday a horrible day because of the school shooting. He says these are the days that are gut-wrenching in his line of work.
