PERHAM — There is a place in Otter Tail County where trout fishing is abundant, the vibrant transition from summer to fall becomes visible even to those with colorblindness, and those with mobility challenges can move up large hills with ease to take in a bird's-eye view of lakes and landscapes. It is a place where conversations are heard and phones not seen.
The magical world of Maplewood State Park is open to all and offers more than one may realize. There are also plans in the works to add a few surprises in 2026, including maple syrup produced at the park and a naturalist on staff. There is also an ongoing long-term effort to purchase a large parcel in the park boundaries, which offers a premier horse facility.
