WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Just over a week after the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education approved a reduction in force plan, students at Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy staged a walkout in protest of the district’s job cuts.

Around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, dozens of middle and high school students left class and walked laps around the track — not for exercise, but to show solidarity with teachers who could lose their jobs or already have.

“Without our teachers we wouldn't be nothing,” said eighth grader Daniyah Carter-Randall.

Senior Naja Fleming said she never expected to join a school protest but felt it was important.
