LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
A new study analyzing detective practices within the Louisville Metro Police Department reveals significant challenges and offers recommendations for reform, following complaints from violent crime victims about stalled cases.
Interviews with 36 LMPD detectives, conducted since July of last year, revealed startling issues in their roles. Detectives reported overwhelming caseloads, with some handling more than a thousand cases.
The report outlined the heaviness of their individual caseloads, with some detectives managing 40 to 50 new cases a week, well over 100 a month, and around 500 open cases, along with nearly 50 exhausted leads.
