LINCOLN, Neb. —

A Nebraska State Penitentiary staff member was seriously injured after two inmates allegedly attacked them.

According to the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, two inmates allegedly attacked the staff member on Wednesday.

The staff member was taken to the hospital for a concussion, facial lacerations, and multiple broken bones.

Multiple staff members responded to the incident, and another staff member was also injured.

“Violence toward staff members will not be tolerated,” said NDCS Director Rob Jeffreys. “Those who choose to perpetrate these acts will be dealt with to the fullest of my authority.”

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and findings will be given to the Lancaster County Attorney to determine if any criminal charges will be filed.
