VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Virginia Beach School Board said on Wednesday that they want to do more to help employees facing health insurance cost increases, but they’re not sure if they can afford it.
Outcry from division employees has been ongoing for weeks, since employees learned a few weeks ago — after they had signed contracts for the year — that their portion of the premiums would go up.
Over 100 employees last week filed a lawsuit against Superintendent Dr. Donald Robertson, alleging he intentionally concealed information about the price hikes until after employees had signed their contracts for the upcoming year. Local attorney Tim Anderson filed the lawsuit on behalf of the employees.
Beginning in 2026, employees will return to paying the same premiums they did in 2019-2022.
