MADISON (WKOW) -- A new traffic test on Willy Street will take place after city leaders approved a trial to close rush-hour lanes. The decision comes as neighbors, including a coffee shop that has been hit by cars four times, push for changes to make the busy street safer.
On Wednesday night, Madison's Transportation Commission voted unanimously to initiate the trial, which will close Willy Street's rush-hour lanes.
Funding for the study, totaling $24,000, will come from Safe Streets Madison. Staff will later present the study's results and analysis to the Transportation Commission for further discussion and a decision.
The changes will be in place until late October. During this period, crews will replace signs, collect traffic data, and gather public feedback.
