MURRAY – Last week’s news that an 18-year-old was seriously injured by a gunshot at the Battle of the Birds football game between Mayfield and Graves County high schools came uncomfortably close to this Friday’s Crosstown Classic in Murray, and local law enforcement chiefs say they will be keeping an extra vigilant eye on the event.
The Mayfield Police Department said in a news release that a 14-year-old male from Fulton has been arrested and charged with first-degree assault after allegedly being involved in the shooting Friday during the fourth quarter of the game, which was played at Mayfield High School’s War Memorial Stadium.
