EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio - East Cleveland police are joining forces with Cuyahoga County sheriff’s deputies to prevent a repeat of last year’s violence that followed the Shaw High School reunion.

Multiple shootings left one person dead and several others injured. This year’s event begins Thursday and runs through Sunday.

East Cleveland Mayor Lateek Shabazz and Cuyahoga County Sheriff Harold Pretel established the partnership Monday, focusing on strategies to prevent after-parties and violence that has come after the reunion.

“The Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department routinely supports municipal law enforcement agencies in securing community events,” spokeswoman Jennifer Ciaccia said.

Deputies will assist with traffic and crowd control on Sunday, when many parties take place.
