MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WFSB) - In response to a school shooting in Minneapolis , school districts across the state increased police presence as a precautionary measure on the first day of school.

Students arriving at Middletown schools on Thursday will notice an increased number of police officers and cruisers outside their buildings.

City officials say the move is made out of an “ abundance of caution” and say that there is no active threat to Middletown schools at this time.

According to a memo sent to parents from Middletown’s mayor and police chief, uniformed officers will be stationed at every city school starting on Thursday, with the increased presence continuing on Friday and into next week.

Middletown is one of several districts in Connecticut taking similar steps.
