An Essex county man was convicted of murder and related weapons charges for killing his stepfather in 2023, police said.

Tyrone Cradle, 29, of Newark, was convicted by a jury on Tuesday for shooting Rasool Crews, 48, multiple times, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Cradle faces a potential sentence of 30 years to life in state prison. His sentencing will be on Oct. 27.

Crews was exiting a vehicle with his daughter when he was shot and killed outside of their home in Newark’s South Ward.

Surveillance footage shows Cradle emerging from the side of the house moments before the shooting and fleeing the scene after the crime, police said.
