NORWICH, CT (WFSB) - Elementary students are set to make a memorable entrance on their first day of school on Thursday morning in Norwich.

Kindergartners at elementary schools across the city will arrive in fire trucks, due to a partnership between the Norwich Fire Department and the Norwich Public School District.

Instead of being dropped off by a school bus or a parent, a select group of students was given a special ride aboard fire trucks to celebrate the first day of the school year.

It’s not yet clear how many students were selected or how they were chosen, but the district said every elementary school in Norwich is participating.

The effort is meant to help make the transition into kindergarten exciting and welcoming for both students and their families.
