A federal judge on Tuesday rejected a request by the Trump administration and the State to keep open a detention center in the Florida Everglades dubbed "Alligator Alcatraz" while they appeal an order to shut the facility down.

Last week, the judge issued a ruling that called for the shutdown of operations at the detention center in 60 days.

The order was in response to a lawsuit questioning the environmental impact of the facility that was constructed within the past two months.

NBC6 also learned that a top Florida official sent an email indicating that the detention facility will likely be empty within days.

The email from the director of Florida's Division of Emergency Management was sent to a rabbi who requested access to the facility.
