HIGH POINT — Grimsley volleyball was already missing last year’s Metro 4A Offensive Player of the Year, Naomi Locklear , when it went into its Metro 6A/7A Conference opener at Southwest Guilford.
With Locklear watching from the bench after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament three matches ago, waves of Whirlies helped overcome their star player’s absence as well as a two-set deficit to defeat the Cowgirls, 3-2 (19-25, 26-28, 30-28, 25-22, 15-10). Southwest Guilford was projected to be Grimsley’s toughest challenger for the league title.
“I think that it was very fun,” Grimsley junior outside hitter Allison Mulry said. “It was a very fun environment to be in. We haven’t had a super rowdy game yet and I personally think that our team kind of thrives off the crowd’s
