Two Guilford County Schools were on a brief lockdown Thursday morning after a loaded gun wrapped in a sweater was found in a 16-year-old student's bookbag at High Point Central, authorities said.

The incident unfolded to nervous local chatter on social media a day after a gunman opened fire at a Minneapolis Catholic school, killing two children and injuring 17 others.

The student was arrested and is charged with possession of a firearm on educational property, possession of a handgun by a minor and carrying a concealed weapon, according to a news release by the High Point Police Department.
