A secluded Hamilton County bridge exclusively for pedestrians is scheduled to open over the White River in the fall.

The $11 million wooden span at 106th Street will connect parks and trails in Carmel and Fishers, far from the roar and fumes of the motorized crossings on busy 96th and 116th streets.

The 500-foot-long bridge will be just 14-feet-wide, barely more than the trails that will steer users from Carmel’s Hazel Landing Park to Heritage Park in Fishers, just west of Allisonville Road.

“This bridge will not only serve to connect parks in Carmel and Fishers along the White River, but it will also provide a scenic and safe route for pedestrians and bicyclists to enjoy when traveling between our communities,” Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation Director Michael Klitizing said. “It
